About

The objective of this lab is to give the students a favourable atmosphere to comprehend certain crucial ideas and applications in the field of heat transfer. This laboratory is designed to help students to become experts in dealing with temperature & heat flow measuring techniques and also to make them able to measure the rate of heat transfer for various fluid flow domains like- flow through a pipe, flow through a cylindrical shell, heat transfer through composite walls, radiation heat transfer, and parallel & counter flow heat exchangers. The students can learn to implement Fourier's law, Stefen-Bolzman's law, and Newton's law of cooling to evaluate the rate of heat transfer.

Natural Convection Apparatus
Natural Convection Apparatus

Used to calculate the overall heat transfer coefficient and local transfer coefficients in natural convection at different heat transfer rates.


Stefan-Boltzman Apparatus
Stefan-Boltzman Apparatus

Used to calculate the Stefan Boltzmann constant. It is made up of a hemisphere that is attached to a Bakelite plate. The copper test disc is placed in the centre of the hemisphere. Temperature sensors are used to measure the temperatures of the hemisphere and test disc.


Parallel and Counter Flow Apparatus
Parallel and Counter Flow Apparatus

Used to calculate heat transfer rate and LMTD in parallel and counter flow. The apparatus consists of a Concentric tube heat exchanger.


Heat Transfer Through Lagged Pipe Apparatus
Heat Transfer Through Lagged Pipe Apparatus

Used to investigate the lagging phenomenon. The apparatus is made up of three concentric pipes, each with a heating element at the centre.


Forced Convection Apparatus
Forced Convection Apparatus

Used to demonstrate forced convection in pipes. It Illustrates the derivation of the values of Nusselt number, Stanton number and determination of the validity of the Reynolds analogy for air.


Emissivity Measurement Apparatus
Emissivity Measurement Apparatus

Used to measure the emissivity of test plate and to Study the variation of emissivity of test plate with absolute temperature.


Composite Wall Apparatus
Composite Wall Apparatus

Used to determine total Thermal Conductivity of a composite walls and to plot temperature gradient along the composite wall structure.


Fluidized Bed Cooling Tower Apparatus
Fluidized Bed Cooling Tower Apparatus

Used to determine the fan capacity and efficiency of a Fluidized bed cooling tower.
