Report of the Event

On 26th October 2024, the Department of Chemical Engineering at KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology organized a guest lecture titled "Past Innovations in Chemical Engineering," delivered by Dr. R. Bharathi Ganesan, Assistant Professor from NIT Calicut. This insightful session was attended by 80 students from the second and third years of Chemical Engineering. Dr. Ganesan explored historical advancements that laid the foundation for modern chemical engineering, covering topics such as the evolution of distillation and separation processes, the role of catalysis in enhancing chemical reactions, the development of membrane technologies, and the transformative shift to automated process control. Additionally, he highlighted early sustainable engineering practices that have influenced today's emphasis on eco-friendly chemical processes. The lecture enriched students' understanding of the field by linking historical breakthroughs with current subjects like Mass Transfer and Industrial Chemistry, deepening their appreciation for past innovations and inspiring them toward future research and sustainable solutions. Students responded enthusiastically, expressing gratitude for Dr. Ganesan's engaging and informative delivery, which connected foundational engineering concepts with contemporary applications. The department intends to organize similar events to continue fostering students' understanding of chemical engineering’s evolving landscape.
