Ms.G.Vinothini, Youngest Mehndi Artist has been invited as a resource person, delivered the importance and various design of Mehndi. She has shared her personal experience about the various Mehndi design and gave a practical design exposure to the participants. She said that Mehndi is a form of body art and temporary skin decoration from the Indian subcontinent usually drawn on hands or legs, in which decorative designs are created on a person's body, using a paste, created from the powdered dry leaves of the henna plant. It is a popular form of body art among the women of South Asia such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal and resembles similar traditions of henna as body art found in North Africa, East Africa and the Middle East. In the West, mehndi is commonly known as henna tattoo. Henna has been used as a dye for the skin since ancient times. Mehndi has always been an integral part of Indian festivities. Historically it was used to provide relief from hot summer days and also to ward off evil spirits. Even today various designs of mehndi are drawn on hands and feet due to their auspiciousness. From weddings to Diwali to Eid, these occasions feel incomplete without mehndi painted hands. Often an easy mehndi design which goes well with the function is the best choice. The session was an eye opening for all the participants. Ms.H.P.Chitrika, II-EEE, delivered the vote of thanks.
