Summary

The seminar successfully enhanced the awareness and understanding of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) among I M.E. students. Participants gained clear insights into the fundamentals of patents, copyrights, trademarks, and industrial designs, along with their significance in academic research and innovation. The session motivated students to identify the novelty in their research work and understand the procedures for protecting intellectual property. Students were also sensitized to ethical research practices and the importance of IPR in technology transfer and commercialization.

A seminar on “Introduction to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)” was conducted exclusively for I M.E. students and was handled by Mr. D. Balaji, Coordinator – Centre for IPR. The session began with an overview of the concept and need for IPR in higher education and research. Mr. Balaji elaborated on various types of intellectual property, the patent filing process, and the role of IPR in safeguarding research outcomes.

The seminar was interactive, with students actively participating in discussions and seeking clarifications related to patentability, prior art search, and ownership of intellectual property in academic institutions. The session concluded with a question-and-answer segment, which helped students relate IPR concepts to their ongoing and future research activities. Overall, the seminar was informative and beneficial, contributing to the research readiness and innovation awareness of I M.E. students.
