The orientation programme “Outcome-Based Education: A Practical Approach to CO–PO Mapping and Attainment Computation” was conducted successfully with the objective of strengthening faculty understanding and effective implementation of OBE practices, particularly those related to NBA Criterion 3.
The programme resulted in the following outcomes:
Faculty members developed a clearer understanding of Course Outcomes (COs) and Program Outcomes (POs) and their significance in the OBE framework.
Participants gained better clarity on the principles and rationale of CO–PO mapping and the need for meaningful mapping based on the level of contribution of each course towards the POs.
The faculty were familiarized with the process of CO attainment calculation, including the role of assessment components and attainment targets.
Participants gained an understanding of how CO–PO attainment can be computed, interpreted, and documented systematically.
The session helped faculty understand that attainment analysis is not merely an accreditation requirement but an important mechanism for evaluating teaching-learning effectiveness and identifying areas for improvement.
The relationship between CO attainment, PO attainment, course improvement, corrective actions, and continuous improvement was discussed in the context of NBA requirements.
Faculty members actively participated in the session and clarified their queries regarding CO formulation, mapping, attainment computation, and interpretation.
The programme helped establish a common understanding and consistency among faculty members in carrying out OBE-related academic processes and documentation.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), conducted an orientation programme titled “Outcome-Based Education: A Practical Approach to CO–PO Mapping and Attainment Computation” on 21 September 2026 at the CSE Board Room, Aryabhatta Block. The programme was organized as part of the IQAC-driven quality enhancement initiatives and was primarily intended to strengthen faculty preparedness for the effective implementation of NBA Criterion 3 requirements.
The session provided faculty members with a structured understanding of the Outcome-Based Education framework, beginning with the concepts of Course Outcomes and Program Outcomes. The importance of well-defined and measurable COs and their alignment with the programme-level outcomes was discussed.
A major focus of the programme was on the practical aspects of CO–PO mapping and attainment computation. The participants were guided through the rationale for mapping COs with POs, the levels of correlation, attainment targets, and the process of calculating and interpreting CO attainment. Practical examples were used to make the concepts easier to understand and apply in their respective courses.
The session further emphasized the significance of attainment analysis in academic quality improvement. Faculty members were encouraged to view CO and PO attainment as tools for identifying learning gaps, evaluating the effectiveness of teaching and assessment strategies, planning appropriate corrective actions, and contributing to continuous improvement.
The participants actively engaged in the session and raised queries related to CO formulation, CO–PO mapping, attainment calculations, target setting, and documentation. The discussions helped clarify common challenges and promoted greater uniformity in the OBE practices followed across courses.
Overall, the programme served as an effective IQAC-led faculty capacity-building initiative, enhancing faculty awareness and practical understanding of OBE processes. The programme is expected to contribute to more systematic implementation of CO–PO mapping and attainment processes and strengthen the department's preparedness for NBA Criterion 3 documentation, assessment, and continuous improvement activities.
