Summary
Centre for Foreign Languages (CFL) & Indo Japan Industry-Academia Alliance (IJIAA) forum jointly organized the screening of the popular Japanese anime “君の名は” (Kimi no Na wa) which literally translates to “Your Name' for Japanese studying students on Saturday, 24th June 2023 at Thanam Hall. The event aimed to provide an immersive language learning experience while enjoying a popular Japanese animated film. A total of 70 students attended the watch party.
The watch party began with a screening of the critically acclaimed anime film 君の名は(Kimi no Na wa). The students were provided with Japanese audio and English subtitles to facilitate comprehension. The captivating story, rich animation, and beautiful soundtrack kept the participants engaged throughout the screening.
After the film, the students actively participated in language practice sessions. They discussed their favorite scenes, shared their thoughts, and exchanged opinions in Japanese. Facilitators encouraged the use of newly learned vocabulary and grammar structures, promoting an interactive and supportive learning environment.
To enhance cultural understanding, the participants had the opportunity to explore various aspects of Japanese culture depicted in the movie. Discussions on traditional festivals, Shinto beliefs, and iconic locations helped the students gain a deeper appreciation for the film's cultural context.
Group activities were organized to encourage teamwork and creativity. The students formed groups and created short skits inspired by the movie or designed alternative endings. Each group performed their skit, allowing the participants to apply their language skills and receive feedback from facilitators and peers.
Overall, the 君の名は (Kimi no Na wa)  screening provided a unique and enjoyable experience for Japanese studying students. It combined language practice, cultural exploration, and creative activities, fostering a supportive learning environment. The event successfully engaged the participants and helped them improve their Japanese language skills while deepening their understanding of Japanese culture.
