Dr. D. Saravanan, Principal, KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, brings over 33 years of extensive experience across industry, teaching, and academic administration. He holds a Ph.D. in Textile Technology from Anna University, an M Tech from IIT Delhi and a B Tech from A C College of Technology, Chennai. Notably, he secured an impressive All India Rank of 64 in GATE. Before academia, he worked as an Assistant Manager at the premium textile & apparel company The Raymond for 9 years.
Before joining KPRIET, Dr Saravanan served as the Principal of Kumaraguru College of Technology from 2021 to 2024. He was also the Principal of Bannari Amman Institute of Technology from 2015 to 2018. Under his strong and excellent leadership, these institutes achieved noteworthy milestones, including accreditations, rankings, industry collaborations and placement records.
He has successfully guided 11 PhD scholars and over 12 sponsored research projects funded by agencies like AICTE, DBT and DST. He is the recipient of prestigious awards like the Indian National Academy of Engineering Award (as the Project Supervisor) and ISTE National Award for his professional accomplishments.
On antimicrobial finishing, recycled yarns, composites, enzymes in textile processing, nano-materials, and geotextiles, he presented 21 papers at international conferences, 6 papers at national conferences and 21 papers at seminars/workshops. He has contributed 5 books/proceedings edited, 29 book chapters, 86 papers in refereed journals and 74 papers in Scopus journals about natural fibres, sustainability and product development on national and international platforms. His pioneering work in "Single Stage Preparation and Finishing of Cotton Fabrics using Enzymes" has been granted a patent.
