"STEM CELL DONATION CAMP" IN CONNECTION WITH THE CELEBRATION OF "WORLD THALASSEMIA DAY 2023" ON 08.05.2023, KPR Institute Engineering and Technology, Autonomous Engineering Institution, Coimbatore, India

Our KPRIET-NSS has conducted the "Stem Cell Donation Camp" in connection with the celebration of "World Thalassemia Day 2023" on 08.05.2023, 2023, in association with the "DATRI stem cell donation and registry" in Chennai on our campus.  DATRI Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry is the pioneer in the field of Blood Stem Cell Donation and is India’s largest registry with more than 4 Lakh donors. Any healthy individual between the age of 18 yrs to 50 yrs can register as Blood Stem Cell donors with DATRI and potentially become a lifesaver when they’re found to be match for a fatal blood disorder patient.

Dr. Nezih Cereb and Dr. Soo Young Yang are the founders of Histogenetics, a laboratory that performs high-resolution HLA (Human Leukocyte Antigen) typing. Histogenetics worked with some Indian hospitals to perform the HLA typing for patients who have leukemia or fatal blood disorders. Their only chance to survive was a stem cell transplant, and if no donor was available in the family, an unrelated donor vis needed. Both of them were well aware of the shortage of HLA-matched, unrelated Indian donors as there was no registry in India.
