Summary

Upskilling Week Report (21.10.2024 – 26.10.2024)

Department of Mechanical Engineering

Focus Areas: Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) and Robotic Welding

Day 1:
Introduced NDT, highlighting its importance in evaluating material integrity without damage. Common techniques include Visual Inspection, Ultrasonic Testing, Radiographic Testing, and Magnetic Particle Testing. Applications span aerospace, construction, and power generation.

Day 2:
Detailed NDT methods such as Liquid Penetrant, Eddy Current, and Thermographic Testing, tailored to detect specific defects across industries like metal fabrication and electronics.

Day 3:
Covered robotics basics, including laws of robotics, types (articulated, SCARA, Cartesian), axes, and teach pendant displays for programming and task management.

Day 4:
Visited HAASEE Industry to observe radiographic testing and robotic technologies. Key learnings included robot accessories (end-effectors, sensors), safety measures, and the precision of SCARA and articulated robots in industrial applications.

Day 5:
Hands-on programming of industrial robots for welding applications, focusing on linear and circular paths. Practical activities included creating various welding joints (butt, lap, corner, T-joints), emphasizing precision and troubleshooting skills.

Day 6:
Engaged in advanced robotic welding tasks. Activities involved setup, programming, workpiece alignment, and weld quality evaluation. The session showcased robotic systems' efficiency in producing high-quality industrial welds.

Outcome:
Participants gained practical expertise in NDT techniques and robotic welding, enhancing their understanding of automated manufacturing processes.
