Summary

Day 1: Workshop

The symposium began with a workshop on November 7, 2024, featuring keynote speaker Smt. Nalini Jayaprakash, Principal of the Amrit Centre for Special Needs in Coimbatore. Known for her dedication to children with special needs, she discussed strategies to foster independence and life skills in children with disabilities. Her session was well-received, as she shared practical approaches, including assistive devices to enhance communication and mobility. Participants found her insights motivational, gaining valuable understanding on how to create inclusive environments for children with disabilities.

Following her session, Prof. Arun Kumar from KPRIET led an interactive session on “Design Thinking.” This session introduced attendees to the core stages of design thinking—empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping, and testing. Prof. Arun encouraged active engagement by inviting participants to share their thoughts on real-world challenges, reinforcing the relevance of design thinking in problem-solving.

The day concluded with a hands-on session on “Mobile App Development” led by Mr. S. Ganaprakash, a mobile application development expert. This session covered the essentials of app creation for Android, iOS, and cross-platform environments like Flutter. Participants explored UI/UX principles, frameworks, and backend tools like Firebase, laying a solid foundation for future app developers. The session was highly appreciated for providing practical insights and technical knowledge.

Day 2: Hackathon

The hackathon kicked off on November 8 at Raagam Hall, starting with an inaugural ceremony at 9:00 a.m. This segment of IGNUZ'24 encouraged participants to apply their skills to real-time challenges. The day included various technical and creative contests, such as a CAD modeling competition ("Sketch Sphere") and a paper presentation ("Paper Pioneer"), both of which tested participants' technical skills and innovation. Networking sessions throughout the day facilitated knowledge exchange among engineering students and mentors.

The participants were engaged in creative activities such as “Bridge Building” (Engineering Connections) and memory-based games, which emphasized teamwork and strategic thinking.

Day 3: Hackathon and Valedictory

The final day of the event, November 9, focused on completing and presenting projects. Participants demonstrated significant progress, and their work was evaluated by an esteemed jury Mr.Shankar Subbaih S, expertise in Assistive Technology, ICT, and Accessibility and a a consultant with Agate Infotek in Chennai. Projects were assessed on creativity, technical depth, and practical application, making this a valuable learning experience for all participants.

The valedictory ceremony took place at the DIC Lab, formally closing IGNUZ'24. The Principal of KPRIET Dr. D. Saravanan honored the winners and awarded cash prizes to outstanding teams in recognition of their dedication and achievements. The top three teams were awarded cash prizes: the first prize winner received ₹10,000, the second prize winner received ₹7,000, and the third prize winner received ₹5,000.
