On October 5, 2024, the IETE Student Forum organized a training program focused on the identification, soldering, and desoldering of electronic components. The event, held in the Embedded Lab of the ECE Block at KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, aimed to provide 1st-year students with hands-on experience in essential electronics skills.
Objective
The primary objectives of the program were to:
Familiarize students with basic electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, and transistors.
Provide practical training on soldering and desoldering techniques, which are critical for circuit assembly and repair.
Ensure students understood the importance of safety while working with electronic circuits.
Event Details
The session commenced at 9:00 AM and continued throughout the day. Expert facilitators provided guidance through various modules:
Introduction to Electronic Components: A detailed explanation of the different components and their functions.
Soldering and Desoldering Techniques: Live demonstrations were followed by practice sessions for participants to hone their skills.
Building Simple Circuits: The students applied their learning by assembling basic circuits, reinforcing their newly acquired knowledge.
Event Coordinators:
The event was successfully coordinated by:
· Mr. Thivakar M from IV ECE C
· Ms. Mitra from II ECE B
Participation
The program saw active participation from 32 students, who were enthusiastic about learning and applying the knowledge, who ensured smooth execution of the event.
Outcome
By the end of the training, participants were proficient in identifying electronic components, as well as soldering and desoldering techniques. The hands-on nature of the workshop helped boost their confidence in practical electronics.
Feedback
The participants found the hands-on approach highly beneficial, particularly the practical sessions on soldering and desoldering. Many appreciated the clear guidance provided by the coordinators and expressed interest in more advanced workshops. Some suggested allowing more time for practice and providing additional resources for continued learning. Overall, the event was well-organized and well-received by the students.
