Summary
In the 21st century, Universities and colleges carefully craft learning programs in collaboration with leading companies. These programs equip the student with all aspects of technical and domain knowledge, which companies deem to be part of the academic curriculum. Every year, a large number of students pass out of colleges in India and around the world. Seeing the trend and the fast pace of growth in today’s world, industry standards also keep increasing at the same time. With this, of course comes many number of expectations from the up-coming students by the company.
The following points were discussed with the students:
1. Create new age digital profile in simple steps to be visible corporate recruiter
2. Learn on the grounds of technology in a timely manner to get ready for the employability index.
3. A domain specific content is directly from industry which will bridge skill gap and help the students to employability
4. Certification and Digital profile are ensuring learning with skill sets and be ready to make career in desired technology
Also, he shared,
The industry requires job-ready graduates. It has been found that
(a) the employability of technical graduates is low,
(b) the requirements of skill set vary from sector to sector,
(c) technical knowledge and skills are considered to be important but soft skills (communication skills, self discipline, team work, willingness to learn, flexibility, creativity etc.) are considered to be more important for employability,
(d) technical graduates lack higher order cognitive skills such as ability to analyze, logical reasoning, ability to evaluate and create, and ability to solve problems,
(e) Knowledge of computers and mathematics are essential for an engineer to succeed, and
(f) teaching-learning processes must focus on higher order thinking skills, problem-solving and creativity, and evaluation processes must change accordingly.
This session lasted for 2 hours. After the doubt clarification session, the participants thanked the resource person and event organizers for a wonderful session. We received much positive feedback regarding this session.
