The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology, in association with the Industry Institute Partnership Cell, organised an expert talk on "Modern Power System Design and Analysis: An Industrial Perspective" on 8 October 2026. The session was held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Thanam Hall, Bhaskara Block. It was attended by second year and third year students and faculty members of the Department.
The speaker was Mr. A. Saravanan, Senior Technical Consultant, ABB India Limited, Bengaluru. The programme began with a welcome address and a brief introduction of the speaker, who was then invited to deliver the talk.
Mr. Saravanan explained how modern power systems are designed and analysed in industry, and how this differs from the classroom approach. He spoke on the planning and design considerations for power distribution and control systems, and on the role of analysis studies such as load flow, short-circuit and protection coordination in ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operation. He also discussed how renewable energy integration, automation and digital technologies are changing power system practice.
He shared examples from his industrial experience and described the practical challenges engineers face in real projects, along with the standards and good practices followed in the field. The students were encouraged to build strong fundamentals, learn simulation and analysis tools, and develop the skills the industry looks for.
The students took an active part in the interaction and asked questions on power system analysis, career opportunities and industry expectations, which the speaker answered with practical insights.
As outcomes, the students gained a clear view of industry practice in power system design and analysis, and understood how their academic subjects apply in real projects. The session also strengthened the Department's link with ABB India Limited. The programme ended with a vote of thanks.
