Internet of Things

The Internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and connectivity which enables these things to connect, collect and exchange data. It is a paradigm shift which can change the world as internet. This is starting to happen, as the continual decrease happens in size, cost, and energy consumption of wireless devices. This network of networks extracts and makes sense of data within machines. An estimated of 50 Billion wireless devices are to be connected to the internet in future. Applications of Internet of Things can greatly benefit people in various domains.

COE

Vision

The Centre of Excellence in near future will be able to enable it as an innovation hub with proper standardization, the realization of prototypes, and provide complete support to the solutions for IoT applications.

COE

Mission

The mission of the CoE-IoT is to enable India as the innovation hub in the emerging technology of the Internet of Things through the democratization of Innovation, Standardization, Realization of prototypes, products before deployment of the IoT devices in the public domain/ infrastructure, and support Government Initiatives on IoT solutions for specific areas like water, energy, agriculture, health, security, and privacy of data.

Facilities

CC2650 STK

The SensorTag kit invites you to realize your cloud-connected product idea. The new SensorTag includes 10 low-power MEMS sensors in a small package and is expandable with DevPacks that make adding your own sensors or actuators easy. Connect to the cloud with Bluetooth Smart and get your sensor data online in three minutes. The SensorTag is ready to use right out the box with an iOS™ and Android™ application and require no programming experience to get started.

COE

CC26X2R1

The CC26x2R devices are part of the SimpleLink microcontroller (MCU) platform which consists of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth low energy, Sub-1 GHz, Thread, zigbee, 802.15.4 and host MCUs, which all share a common, easy-to-use development environment with a single core software development kit (SDK) and rich tool set. A one-time integration of the SimpleLink platform enables you to add any combination of the portfolio’s devices into your design, allowing 100 percent code reuse when your design requirements change. This LaunchPad kit supports programming and debugging from Code Composer Studio and IAR Embedded Workbench integrated development environments (IDEs).

COE

Development kit for CC1200

The CC1200 development kit provides a complete platform for hardware performance testing and software development for TI's sub-1 GHz CC1200 device. The development kit comes pre-programmed with a packet error rate test for easy out-of-the-box evaluation of the RF performance of the device. RF range and robustness can be tested with different RF settings, and power consumption can be measured easily. This kit supports the frequency range from 868 to 930 MHz. Additional plug-in boards (EMK) can be purchased separately to support other frequencies. The kit includes the SmartRF Transceiver Evaluation Board (TrxEB), which has a number of useful features for development of prototype software, as well as USB connectivity making it possible to connect the board to a PC and control the radio from SmartRF Studio.

Dragino LoRa

The Dragino LoRa Shield is a long range transceiver on a Arduino shield form factor and based on Open source library. The LoRa Shield allows the user to send data and reach extremely long ranges at low data-rates.It provides ultra-long range spread spectrum communication and high interference immunity whilst minimising current consumption.

The LoRa Shield based on SX1276/SX1278 targets professional wireless sensor network applications such as irrigation systems, smart metering, smart cities, smartphone detection, building automation, and so on.

COE

Using Semtech’s patented LoRa™ modulation technique the LoRa Shield can achieve a sensitivity of over -148dBm using a low cost crystal and bill of materials. The high sensitivity combined with the integrated +20 dBm power amplifier yields industry leading link budget making it optimal for any application requiring range or robustness. LoRa™ also provides significant advantages in both blocking and selectivity over conventional modulation techniques, solving the traditional design compromise between range, interference immunity and energy consumption.

These devices also support high performance (G)FSK modes for systems including WMBus, IEEE802.15.4g. The LoRa Shield deliver exceptional phase noise, selectivity, receiver linearity and IIP3 for significantly lower current consumption than competing devices.

ETS-IoT-WDM

The ETS IOT WDM board is built around a dual-core ESP32 chip with 4MB of SPI flash onboard, providing both LoRa, LoRaWAN, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE via a “3D antenna” on the PCB.

The board’s LoRa support operating at 868MHz with an included SMA antenna. The board can be programmed using the Arduino development environment, and the example code shows you how to both send and receive data via LoRa.

Flipping the board over there is a battery holder for a 18650 Li-Ion cell, and while a 18650 sort of looks like a “standard” AA battery, it’s significantly different. So don’t make the mistake of substituting in the more common AA battery to try and power the board. They’re not quite the same size, but I’ve seen people attempt this substitution nonetheless.
