Department of Civil Engineering and Department of Engineering Mathematics in association with Indian Geotechnical Society organized an International webinar on Geomembranes and its application on 30.09.2024.
Session 1 was handled by Prof. Dr. Dr. Fauziah Ahmad, Professor -Geotechnical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia, Penang on the topic Geosynthetics : Functions and its application in Engineering Constructions. She discussed on the several geosynthetics materials available in the market and elaborated its application based on different conditions. She then interacted with the participants and clarified the doubts.
Session 2 was handled by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Shukri Yahaya, Professor of Engineering Statistic, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia, Penang on the topic Use of probability distributions and extreme value distributions in Engineering. He presented the probability distributions that are used to model the likelihood of various outcomes within a system, allowing engineers to assess potential risks and design structures that can withstand expected variations in conditions, while extreme value distributions specifically focus on modeling the probability of rare, extreme events like very high loads or extreme weather conditions, which are crucial for designing reliable systems in situations with high potential consequences like flood control or offshore platforms.
