Objective of the Visit The industry visit was organized to provide students with practical exposure to ongoing construction activities and to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world engineering practices.
he visit provided valuable exposure to precast construction methods, structural components, on-site execution practices, quality control measures, and the level of coordination required in real-time projects. Observing the direct application of classroom concepts in a live construction environment was highly enriching and enhanced our practical understanding.
Key Highlights of the Visit:
TNCD Experience Centre:
Students visited the TNCD Experience Centre, where they were introduced to the organization, its vision, and its major ongoing and completed projects.
Capital City Project Site:
The team visited the Capital City project, a Stilt + 5-floor residential building. The stilt floor was constructed using conventional construction methods, while the upper floors were developed using precast construction technology, demonstrating a hybrid construction approach.
Precast Construction Techniques:
Students learned about various aspects of precast construction, including:
Precast element erection process
Use of dowel bars for connections
Common defects in precast elements
Grouting techniques
Application of screed concrete
Waterproofing Practices:
The discussion included waterproofing techniques such as the use of bitumen layers and Sika sheets. It was also highlighted that conventional construction methods are preferred for terrace water tanks to effectively prevent leakage issues.
