The following were explained to the learners. Preparing a Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for a building for construction project management. The sequential steps include:
1. Understand the Project Scope: Review the architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and any other relevant documents to understand the scope of the building project.
2. Create Work Breakdown Structure (WBS): Break down the project into different work packages or sections. For example, you might have sections for foundation works, structural elements, electrical, plumbing, finishing, etc.
3. Items / Description of Work: Within each section of the WBS, itemize the quantities and descriptions of the materials, labor, and services required. You'll need to specify each component that goes into the building, such as bricks, cement, steel bars, doors, windows, etc.
4. Use Standard Units of Measurement: Ensure that all quantities are measured using standard units, such as cubic meters (m³) for excavation, square meters (m²) for plastering, etc.
5. Apply Detailed Measurements: Accurately measure and quantify the quantities required for each item. This can be done through manual calculations or by using specialized software designed for BOQ preparation.
6. Present the BOQ: The BOQ is usually presented in a tabulated format with clear item descriptions, quantities, rates, and extended amounts. It is essential to organize the BOQ in a way that is easy to understand and navigate.
